A few moments away from the guys.

Swanzey's Open Space Committee and the Town of Swanzey are sponsoring the production of Swanzey Rural Character: The Movie. an hour-long oral history of Swanzey's special people, places, and events.

Comprised of extended interviews with some of Swanzey's finest historians and storytellers, Swanzey Rural Character: The Movie will also collect shorter, person-on-the-street interviews with Swanzey's residents telling their favorite stories about Swanzey, and why Swanzey is such a great place to live.

Our documentary film crew will tape interviews around town, at places such as Twinkle Town, Gomarlo's, Richardson Park, Arnone's, the Post Offices, and wherever whim strikes.  They'll definitely be at the performances of The Old Homestead, a t Old Home Day, and at the Cheshire Fair.  Check back here for a schedule.

Swanzey Rural Character: The Movie is directed by Evan Barlow, a 17-year-old Monadnock High School senior, as his Senior Project.  An accomplished filmmaker already, Evan brings a keen sensitivity to the material, as well as considerable technical skill.  Produced by his father, Bruce Barlow (who brings you The Adventures of Buck and Ike on YouTube.com and on DVD), the father-son team combines subnstantial filmmaking experience and a passion for quality.  Their project adviser is Swanzey resident Erik Ewers, a senior editor for Ken Burns' Florentine Films, as well as an independent producer in his own right.

The Open Space Committee has applied for grant funding to provide every Swanzey mailbox with a copy of Swanzey Rural Character: The Movie when it is released in January, 2009.  The production team's stretch goal is to have it accepted for airing on New Hampshire Public Television.
